So you’ve found the wedding dress of your dreams — congratulations! In the wedding planning process, this milestone may come with excitement and tears of joy all that lead to your next decision — your bridal accessories. Accessories offer you the chance to show your unique style and serve as the finishing touch to your bridal look. There are many different types of accessories to choose from including headpieces, veils and jewelry. Within these types of accessories there are also a lot of things to consider, such as finish and style. Will you wear silver or gold? Pearls or crystals?
If you’re feeling overwhelmed by all of the options, we are here to help. Hair pieces are a popular bridal accessory (and one of our favorites). We have tips to guide you in choosing your perfect piece!
What to consider:
When choosing a hair piece, be sure to keep in mind how you’d like your hair to be styled. If you’re considering an updo, we suggest going for a back comb, side comb or hair pins. If you’d rather style your hair half up and down, a tiara or headband might be best for you! Side swept hair can work with any piece. You can tuck a small comb into the side or wear a tiara or headband.
The color and style of your dress also play a big role in deciding on the perfect headpiece. If your gown is simple, you may wish to add a larger hair piece in order to add shimmer to your look. Heavily embellished gowns work best with smaller or dainty hairpieces so they can add just the right amount of shimmer to compliment your gown. If your gown has pearls, a headpiece with pearls would be perfect, and the same goes for rhinestones. Lace dresses often have floral elements, which pair beautifully with floral accessories.
Your Preferred Finish
Depending on your personal style, you may prefer gold over silver or vice versa. Rose gold is trending right now as a gorgeous alternative to gold. The color of your gown may determine the finish as well. Ivory wedding gowns beautifully complement gold and rose gold as they have warmer undertones in the fabric but we see many brides rock silver jewelry with them as well. White and off-white gowns coordinate perfectly with silver but are also a great baseline for pairing with golden finishes as well. In addition to matching your gown, you may wish to consider a hairpiece that matches your engagement ring. If your ring is white gold, a silver comb would match. For gold or rose gold rings, choose the same finish in a hairpiece.
No matter what type of hair piece you choose, just be sure that you’ll be comfortable wearing it all day, and that you feel beautiful!
